Recovery after complex PCI is usually far shorter than after bypass surgery, but it is still a medical procedure — pacing yourself matters.
First 24–48 hours
Many patients go home the same or next day. Expect a pressure bandage or wrist band for a short period, light activity, and clear instructions on medications.
First two weeks
Walking is encouraged. Avoid heavy lifting until advised. Chest discomfort can occur as the artery heals; report severe or escalating symptoms immediately.
Returning to what you love
Patients often describe returning to golf, cycling, or walks with grandchildren within weeks — especially when angina had previously stopped them. Exact timing depends on your heart function, access site, and overall health.
Cardiac rehabilitation and risk-factor care (blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking cessation, diabetes) remain essential for long-term success.
